Anya Nixon
I create contemporary gardens for people who want thoughtful, curated outdoor spaces. My design approach is carefully considered and restrained, and informed by interior and exterior architecture. I place an emphasis on natural materials and extensive planting to deliver a garden that is beautiful, but also works for daily life.
Biography:
My practice builds on diverse previous experience. I have always loved art — I studied it at A-Level, intending to pursue it further — but I also enjoy academic study, and ended up with a degree in Law and French Law from UCL. After graduating, I picked up art again and completed the summer school foundation course at the Slade School of Fine Art, before working as a finance lawyer for 15 years.
Garden design is where those two parts of my life meet. The years I spent in law gave me a rigour and precision that shapes how I approach every project — how I listen to a brief, structure a design process, and see a project through to completion. The creative sense has always been there alongside it, expressed now in the way I think about space, material, light, and planting.
