LCGD recognised for leadership in sustainability
The London College of Garden Design has received yet another accolade in recognition of its leadership in sustainability.
As well as being recently accredited as a Green Small Business, LCGD was shortlisted for Pro Landscaper’s Sustainability and Biodiversity awards 2025 and is also the only professional garden college to have a dedicated Director of Environmental Design, Andrew Fisher Tomlin. Andrew’s new book, ‘The Modern Professional Planting Designer, unsurprisingly has sustainability at its core and is the first to reveal how to achieve professional-level design while blending sustainability and beauty in gardens of every scale.
LCGD is at the forefront of this evolving but fundamental aspect of garden design, not only by ensuring that its own activities are sustainable but also by embedding sustainable design principles and practice into its industry-leading courses, through which it trains over 100 design professionals of the future every year.
LCGD’s strategy was endorsed by the Sustainability and Biodiversity Awards judging panel which commented: “The London College of Garden Design has a mature, holistic and well-integrated approach to sustainability. It is very clear that the college is fully committed to embodying the mindset and the practice of environmentally conscientious business practice. It is exciting to know that this dedication is being passed on so enthusiastically to the next generation of professionals entering the industry.”
As well as being in a strong position to positively impact environmental sustainability, LCGD is committed to social equity and cultural sustainability (as recognised by UNESCO and the World Summit on Sustainable Development) offering a bursary scheme and supporting the BALI Chalk Fund, Perennial and the London Gardens Network to widen access to its industry-leading training.
