‘Gardening on the edge of wild’

We need green spaces in ways we do not fully understand. I am naturally drawn towards making spaces that invoke a deep connection with the landscape, that gently awaken our inherent bond with the natural world.



Biography:

I grew up on a farm in Suffolk. Unusually for farming in the 80s & 90s my dad planted hedges, not removed them, headlands were left to benefit wildlife and in odd corners ponds were dug. My dads curiosity rubbed off on me, the birds on the farm were identified and collated, the weather patterns recorded and even the wasps were left alone.

Having run away from the farm to study fine art I unconsciously took the farm and the large skies of Suffolk with me creating colourfield paintings that one way or another were distilled landscapes. The life drawing, critical thinking and strong aesthetic from this period has been with me since.

London became home, whilst a media job in photography management & production became work. Until a move to Kent reawakened the significance of landscape, leading me to become a self taught gardener, finally learning some plants, both native and exotic. Adding the garden design diploma to this has been a significant but very rewarding challenge and I look forward to applying all that I’ve learnt over the years.
