Richard Wilford appointed Course Leader at LCGD

Renowned horticulturalist, plantsman and garden designer Richard Wilford has been appointed Course Leader for the Certificate in Plantsmanship at the London College of Garden Design, starting in September 2026.

Richard is well known to LCGD students, having taught on the Planting Design Diploma for the past ten years. He spent 37 years at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, most recently as Head of Garden Design, where his work included the Great Broad Walk Borders, the Evolution Garden and the Carbon Garden.

An accomplished author and RHS judge, Richard has written widely on alpines, bulbs and perennials and has travelled extensively to study plants in their natural habitats worldwide.

The Certificate in Plantsmanship, which runs from September to December, completed its successful first year in 2025 and is taught by leading horticultural professionals. Tutors include Fergus Garrett VMH, Michael Marriott and John Grimshaw FLS, alongside a distinguished team of expert contributors.
